When it comes to environmental problems, Americans are most worried about pollution of drinking water. In Gallup's 2008 environment survey, 53 percent of Americans said they "worried a great deal" about it, followed by 50 percent of people who said they "worried a great deal" about "pollution of rivers, lakes, and streams." Only 37 percent said they "worried a great deal" about global warming, down from 41 percent who gave that response last year. People tend to be most worried about environmental problems they can see. That may be one reason why global warming hasn't reached the top tier of environmental concerns. Source: The Gallup Organization, March 2008.
